So, you took a Personality Test.
It says you are a Delta – nope, not an Alpha and not a Beta.
Do you need to worry about it?
Perhaps not. Or maybe you need a crash course on what a Delta is like.
What is a Delta Male?
People don’t really talk much about Delta Males, you must admit. This does not mean that a Delta is an automatic loser, though.
A Delta Male has the qualities of both Alphas and Betas. That may surprise you, but let us see why this is the case.
If you notice someone (or maybe even yourself) steering away from the group, you may be looking at either a Delta or a Sigma.
However, while Sigmas are mysterious, Deltas have experienced what it is like to be an Alpha. They have decided to forego their Alpha roles for something quieter.
Sadly, a Delta can also be that guy that blends in with the rest of the group so much you barely even know he is there.
Do Delta Males Even Exist?
Yes, Delta Males exist.
Wherever you see a former Alpha retreat to a quieter role, you’re looking at a Delta (if not a Sigma).
This is a man who has matured and has realized that confidence does not always have to mean neglecting relationships for the sake of self-absorption and winning.
Delta men exist.
They are a little more complex than the other personality types because they have experienced straddling the gap between Alphas and Betas.
They are more like a real person – complete with complicated traits.
However, their realness may also mean that they are just about every guy you meet – yep, your Average Joe, your Everyman, or your John Doe.
Do you really want to relegate yourself to such a role in life?
Let us hope that you say “no” to that.
There is, after all, a way to improve on yourself without giving up your quieter pleasures.
Some people make things even more complicated by describing Delta Males as men who used to be Alpha Males who transitioned to becoming Gamma Males. Then, later on, they became Deltas.
If you are this latter description of a Delta, you must get over your chipped shoulder.
What are the characteristics of a Delta Male?
1) Aloof
He goes his own way, much like a lone wolf but not quite. He just would rather sit at his very own table, away from the rest.
On the other hand, he might be there with the rest of the crowd, but not really standing out as one should.
2) Does not care if he belongs to the crowd or not
The point for him is that he does not really care if he belongs to the “in” crowd, anyway.
He is okay with his setup – really! Perhaps, he is just too content.
Despite this, he knows the value of teamwork.
He can be a nice guy, too, because he knows not everything is just about him.
He will listen.
3) Knew what it was like at the top – or fears the top
A Delta Male may have been an Alpha who had gone through something life-changing, possibly a tragic event or a learning experience.
He knew what it was like to lead a group, but now he tries as much as he can to avoid it.
Some Deltas, on the other hand, just do not want to reach out for the stars. They would rather be in their own little corners.
4) Lonely
Because of his aloof ways, people may not be that thrilled to invite a Delta guy to parties.
People just don’t like to deal with someone who looks like he is carrying the weight of the world.
5) Self-aware
A big bonus point for a Delta is that he is not selfish.
He knows himself, and he also uses his keen observation to see how others are.
6) Assertive
Just because he has let go of a higher authoritative position does not mean he lacks conviction.
He has enough intelligence to retain the best of his Alpha Personality.
Unfortunately, we also have to be made aware of some lower-level Deltas, who just do not have an ounce of ambition in their bodies.
They just would rather exist than work on their aspirations.
Are Delta Males Rare?
Deltas are possibly rarer than other personality types.
After all, you are perhaps looking at a tragic hero who has either matured or fallen from his Alpha pedestal.
However, it would still be hard to tell if the person that does not usually get invited to parties and events is a Delta or an Alpha.
Perhaps, you will feel a more tragic edge instead of a mysterious one, if you are comparing him to a Sigma for example.
What are some Delta Male Symbols?
There is no particular symbol associated with Delta Males.
In primates, the Delta is a fallen leader who now just works hard to make the group’s best.
How does a Delta fare against other members of the social hierarchy?
Here is a look at him with each personality type:
Versus the Alpha Male
At this point, a Delta does not really care if he can reach leadership status. He just wants to work as hard as he can.
He may have been a former leader or just a person content with working as hard as he can.
Versus the Beta Male
Unlike the Beta Male, the Delta does not really care for being within the same social circles as the leading guys.
Both of them are introverted but in a different way.
Beta Males still manage to stand out because of their geeky, supportive ways. Deltas just want to blend in.
Versus the Gamma Male
While the Delta and the Gamma are not part of the inner circle, Delta still cares enough to work hard, while the Gamma may be misunderstood as too lazy to reach for his dreams.
Gammas do not only skate through the fringes, but they also make up their own rules.
Versus the Omega Male
Deltas are still trying to play by the roles.
The Omega, on the other hand, just lives within the edges of society.
A Delta has his own rules and does not mind not being part of the crowd.
How are Deltas in Love & Friendships?
Deltas are not loners, not completely.
They may not enjoy being in the inner circle all the time, but they will be lingering by the fringes.
They are willing to make friends with the top-tier guys.
He just wants to do as well as he can.
Do Deltas Truly Fall in Love?
Deltas do fall in love.
However, some women may not be used to have they can be sarcastic or sardonic even in their type of humor.
If this is a former Alpha who left the spotlight, some women may be intrigued.
Deltas do have the capacity to listen intently and give importance to the other person – not himself.
However, if this is the unambitious Delta, women may be put off.
If you are this type of Delta, believe me, you need to get out there and develop some great skills.
As I woman, I love Delta’s listening skills, but he could do with a little toning down on the sarcasm and bitter repartees.
In the end, though, finding the right woman will transform a Delta into a dreamboat.
For some women, it does not matter what you look like. What matters is that you truly love them.
Of course, it also helps if you have enough confidence to approach your dream woman in the first place.
How are Deltas in their Careers?
A Delta is not on top of the corporate ladder. He might have been once, but he slid off due to a significant event.
If you are a Delta, you may have your reasons but remember that it may be all up to you if you want a career or a relationship.
You may have to get out of your funk.
Being an average Joe will put you right there in a spot with the rest of the crowd.
If you want success, love, and the rest of it, you must use more than your usual dose of hard work.
What motivates a Delta?
A Delta is motivated by being as good as he possibly can at his job.
This personality type values his intelligence.
Deltas are the backbones of society. That is something that everyone should understand.
While the Alphas are trying to make themselves better, Deltas helps make everyone else’s lives better. They are delivering on their jobs.
While the Betas are working in the background, the wind beneath the Alpha’s wings, Deltas do not mind if they work outside of the corporate circle.
They are motivated by the bottom line.
How do you become a Delta Male?
People do not really want to become Deltas, truth be told.
But an Alpha Male may consider becoming one by giving up the pedestal that they are on.
A Beta should also stop lingering by the fringes of society.
On the other hand, Gammas may have to tone down their quirks, just as Sigmas must stop working their defiant and underhanded sense of mystery.
You will have to be that hard-working average guy to be a Delta.
In some ways, this is a good idea for guys experiencing getting burned out. It is time to take a break from the spotlight.
Who are Some Famous Delta Males?
You don’t really meet a lot of famous Delta Males.
This is because these guys are Everymen from every profession.
They don’t exactly stand out – or they do try their best not to.
However, you may think of some guys who have been right at the top, and then suddenly, you have not heard from them for a while.
Perhaps you are dealing with a Delta. It is someone who has just said, “enough with this hierarchical society.”
Conclusion
You can see Deltas everywhere.
If you got your mail on time, you might have to thank a Delta somewhere.
Somebody at a government office approved an application. A few Deltas may have been responsible.
Deltas are not your CEOs, or geek geniuses, or hipsters, and rockstars. What you get from a Delta, however, is a lot more stable.
What you see is what you get.
There are no smokes and mirrors with Deltas. What they give you is what you ask of them.
So, are you a Delta?
If you are, there is nothing to be ashamed of. You are a significant contributor to society.
Were you once on top?
Again, there is nothing wrong with that. Sometimes, we need a break from the spotlight to breathe and live life as we choose it – slowly but surely.
The top-tier guys secretly want to be you.
They want out of that corporate prison that they have found themselves in, racing every single day just to complete what they needed to do.
The attention is fantastic at first, but it can get to you. Sometimes, you lose yourself.
This is why some top CEOs drop out of their former jobs, not just because of bankruptcies and other tragedies.
Some just want some quiet.
But does it mean you should remain there in that spot?
No. ambition should still remain simmering in you. You may realize that while you may be taking a break from it all, you will want to be up there.
Wanting to be at the top does not have to be selfish. It does not have to be no-holds-barred, stepping on other people’s toes.
When you find a way to get up there, again, give it a try. You can mellow it down a bit.
Perhaps the world needs more of the Delta guy: hard-working, intelligent, but not self-absorbed.
Still, you need to beware of the trap Delta guys get caught in: being too crowd-pleasing. Be your own self.
The true conclusion: Delta guys can either be heroes or losers. Don’t be the latter.
